Herb McGowan Wins Civic Service Award
Congratulations to The Bridges of Seaforth resident Herb McGowan for winning the Seaforth Civic Service
Award for his efforts with the Seaforth Food Bank. Since accepting the position of coordinator in 2010, Herb
computerized the client list which has helped the volunteers to serve clients much faster. Herb has also created a
number of unique and successful fundraising events including the first Souper Saturday and baked goods auction
raising over $3,000. He organized a hot dog and sausage bbq during the electronics clean up event. Perhaps
Herb’s greatest achievement has been the creation of the community garden which has grown from an original
five plots to at least 10 for next year. A portion of the harvest goes to the food bank. Two of the plots are
exclusively for the food bank that Herb and a few volunteers oversee themselves.
Herb and his wife Anja have been residents of Seaforth for the past 6 years.
Wendy Hutton Gets Involved
When Wendy Hutton gets involved, she really does it in a big way. A Bridges of Seaforth resident for more
than 5 years, Wendy was nominated for the Humanitarian Award for all of her volunteer activities including
Secretary for The Blyth Theatre Board of Directors, the Foundation Board of the Seaforth Hospital, the
Seaforth Hospital Auxiliary, the Habitat for Humanity, the Economic Development committee, Seaforth Food Bank
and at Dining for Seniors. |
